My Family: the ID tags with most personality for your dog
I'll confess: I'm a total fan of My Family tags. And I haven't just started saying it: we've been selling them in the shop for years and they're still the little detail that gets people most excited when someone has just brought home a new dog. They're small, cost less than a coat, can be personalised for free, and they always hit the mark. There's not a single dog owner who receives a My Family tag and isn't moved.
In this article I'll tell you why they're special, which collections we stock and how to pick the one that fits your dog best (or the dog of the person you want to give a gift to).
Why My Family tags aren't just another tag
My Family is an Italian brand with real goldsmith tradition. What they make aren't the typical die-cut, engraved tags you see everywhere: they're pieces enamelled by hand in hypoallergenic materials, with finishes you notice both by touch and sight. When you open a My Family tag for the first time and compare it with a generic bazaar tag, the difference is obvious: shine, colour, drawing definition, weight. It's a piece, not an emergency accessory.
And there are three more things that make them special:
- Hand enamel. Each tag is painted by hand, so even if you buy the same model twice, each one has its own little singularity. It's proper industrial craft.
- Free personalisation. All tags can be engraved on the back with the dog's name and the owner's phone number. Free. No extra charge, no hoops to jump through. You request it on the product page and it arrives already engraved.
- The enormous catalogue. In the shop we have 77 active models and My Family in Italy works with hundreds of lines. There's so much for every taste that it's rare not to find the perfect tag for a specific dog.
Tag vs microchip: why the tag is the one that really brings your dog back
Before I get into the collections, I want to make one thing clear that we repeat a lot in the shop because plenty of people overlook it. Yes, all dogs must have a microchip by law and it's what identifies the dog officially. But the chip isn't visible to the naked eye. If your dog escapes and someone finds them, that person has to take them to a vet clinic, the police or a rescue centre so someone can scan them and access your details. And that, if you're lucky, happens in hours, not minutes. Very often it happens the next day. And sometimes, quite simply, it doesn't happen.
The tag does something else. The tag hangs from the collar, has your phone number in plain sight, and anyone who finds your dog is calling you within two minutes. It's the difference between getting your dog back that same afternoon or losing them for a full day. That's why the tag isn't a decorative accessory: it's the real first line of identification and it works even at two in the morning, when no clinic is open.
Chip and tag aren't exclusive. They're complementary and both are necessary. But if I had to keep just one operational at the moment the dog gets lost, it would be the tag.
Our favourite My Family collections in 2026
Out of all My Family's lines, there are a few we sell especially well in the shop and that we tend to recommend depending on the dog's profile or the owner's.
Friends Collection: your dog's breed, on the tag

The queen of the range for those with a defined breed. Little tags with the breed's face hand-enamelled on the front: dachshund, chihuahua, corgi, Boston terrier, Maltese bichon, Pomeranian, poodle, Afghan hound, water dog, French bulldog, cocker, yorkie… dozens of breeds are covered, and for most there are colour variants to reflect the specific mix of your dog.
Food and Charms Collection: for owners with a sense of humour

The fun part of the catalogue. The Food tags come in food shapes: avocado, sushi, croissant, coffee, watermelon, cherries, lemon. And the Charms are various shapes: lightning bolt, star, butterfly, heart. Perfect for gifting to someone with style or humour. They also work really well for small dogs because the tag proportions are just right.
Basic and Rainbow Collection: the classic that never misses

The timeless, more discreet option. The Basic bone and the Basic circle come in gold, silver and various plain colours. Simple, elegant, perfect for a dog with a leather collar or for someone who prefers a tag that doesn't draw attention but does its job. And the Rainbow, a multicolour bone, is the version with a colourful wink that people with a more playful streak love.
How to personalise it (and why it's the best part)
Here's the magic. When you buy a My Family tag on the online shop, on the product page itself there's a field to fill in with two pieces of data: your dog's name and a contact phone number. That's it. We take care of the engraving and the tag arrives at your home with those details on the back, clean and neatly done.
A couple of practical tips we always give in the shop:
- Use a phone that's always answered. If someone finds your dog, that tag is the first contact. Much better your mobile than the home landline.
- Short name or the nickname you actually use. If your dog is called Balthazar of the Torrija III, better Balta. Takes less space and it's what you'll shout on the street if they run off.
- Consider adding CHIP if they have a microchip. Some customers do this to make clear the dog is officially identified. Optional but helpful.
The tag as a gift: why it always hits the mark
It's the most appreciated gift we've ever sold. And it makes total sense: it's personal (bears the dog's name), has real utility (street identification), it's pretty, doesn't take up space at home, and doesn't depend on the dog's size. Whether it's a chihuahua or a German shepherd, the tag hangs from the collar and that's it.
It's an especially good gift idea for:
- People who have just adopted or bought a dog and haven't made a tag yet.
- Friends with defined-breed dogs — the Friends tag for their breed has a huge surprise factor.
- Presents for the dog's birthday — more and more people celebrate it, and a new tag is a lovely symbolic detail.
- Little extras to accompany a collar or a harness in a bigger gift.
- The classic "I'm going to my friends' house who just got a puppy and I want to bring something".
And one important thing: if you're not sure about the name or the details, in the shop we can issue gift cards for whatever amount you want, and then the owner picks the model and adds the details. That way the gift arrives just as well, without the risk of getting it wrong.

About the author
Mar is the founder of Mascoboutique. What started as an idea to dress and equip her own dog became, over the years, a reference boutique in Madrid for families with dogs. Every product that comes into the shop passes through her hands first: she tests materials, checks finishes, pictures the dog that's going to wear it. With My Family tags the standard is especially demanding because they're a detail that's seen, touched and often gifted. Here we don't recommend what sells best, but what she herself would put on her own dog.
